Description

The 3rd installation in my Persona side-project. This was the quickest one I've designed so far. Let's hope I can keep up that pattern. Fingers crossed!

Anyhow, this is the Persona I see my girlfriend :iconshamanic-destiny: having: the Chinese phoenix known as the Fenghuang. Emily has always had a strong liking towards the mythos behind the phoenix and, the more I looked into it, the more I could see how it could work for her. Em has had a few low-points, but she always manages (if you'll excuse the direct cliche) to rise up from the ashes. I chose the Chinese Phoenix specifically because the mythology surrounding paints it in a much more positive light than other myths (some believed a phoenix was an omen of death for whoever spotted it). In China and Japan, the phoenix was seen as a symbol of the sun, high virtue, grace, and justice, all of which are qualities I see in Emily.

As you can see, I performed what some might call a "Re-imagining," and what others might call a "Complete disgrace to the source material." To-may-to, To-mah-to.
Em's always had a thing for Fighting games (Guilty Gear, King of Fighters, and Tekken especially) and so, I thought it would suit her quite well to redesign the Fenghuang as it might appear in a 2-D Fighting game. I drew heavy influence from Kyo Kusanagi.

Now, for Emily's arcana, I thought the Empress was a good fit for her. Again, if I may quote the Shin Megami Tensei Wiki...

"the Empress represents prosperity, creativity, sexuality, abundance, fertility and comfort (most often in helping maintain peace around them like an ideal mother would.)"

While not ALL of it fit, I thought, overall, that all those attributes were very prevalent in Emily. She's incredibly gifted creatively, many things she sets her mind to turn out prosperously, and she does a great job in maintaining peace around her. Not in the passive "Can't we all just get along?" or tyranical "Shut up and be happy with each other" sense, but much more in letting you know if the battle you're fighting is worth the effort behind it.

More to come, so don't you quit on me now...please!

(And sorry about the HUGE amount of reading I attach to these!)

Now, you say "re-imagining" and "complete disgrace to the source material" as if that's NOT what the persona designs in Shin Megami Tensei were all about. How else do you explain Orpheus being a clockwork boy and Polydeuces being a giant mech with a cape and missle arms?
